Jermain de Rozario

The story of Jermain de Rozario is the tale of how a street kid evolves into a prominent chef in the Netherlands. He grew up in a large family with five siblings. At the age of 15, he moved out of the house and got lost in one illegal house party after another. He held various odd jobs, from sorting sausages to garbage collector. Fortunately, he eventually found his way into the hospitality industry and started as an apprentice at ‘t Parlement in Helmond.

Eventually, he became an independent working cook there and came into contact with Soenil Bahadoer of De Lindehof** restaurant in Nuenen. He was able to start quickly, but it was certainly not without struggle. At 26 years old, Jermain had zero experience and Soenil didn’t immediately see the culinary talent in him. After a rough start, Jermain became a chef de partie and started to enjoy his work more and more. He went all out to improve his cooking techniques and create his own dishes. This made him more confident in his abilities, and to top it off, they earned the second Michelin star at De Lindehof.

In 2016, it was time for Jermain to open the doors of his own restaurant: De Rozario in Helmond. Not long after, Michelin came knocking on the door, and in the same year, he appeared in the guide. Initially without a star, but he and his team managed to earn one in 2018 and have since retained it with flying colors. At restaurant De Rozario, everything revolves around cooking with all your heart. The cooking style is mainly Asian with an emphasis on Indonesia.

Jermain sees an evolution happening in the world and in the seasons. You can feel, taste, and see it around us. It’s a good and beautiful moment to tune into a different frequency… Chef Jermain de Rozario stands for spectacle.
